The affluent suburb of Southlake is getting its very own Malai Kitchen. A representative for Braden and Yasmin Wages' four-year-old West Village restaurant sends word that a second location is in the works for a ritzy up-and-coming retail development called Park Village, with plans to open this Fall.
Expect a menu that sticks pretty closely to the original, with modern takes on traditional Vietnamese and Thai dishes like pho, green papaya salad, and pad Thai, plus small plates like some of the best chicken wings in town and Southeast Asian-inspired craft cocktails. The West Village original began brewing its own beer in-house last year, and the Southlake locale will expand on that with a larger brew room and five different Asian-style beers on tap (the Uptown location has only three).
Malai Southlake will be located at 1161 E. Southlake Boulevard; the Park Village development will also eventually include a location of Modmarket, the healthy fast-casual chain that's already got locations in Preston Hollow, Plano, and Flower Mound. Tenants already open include REI and The Fresh Market.
