There's still plenty of work to be done at Sylvan Thirty, but thanks to recent additions Ten Ramen and CiboDivino, the up-and-coming mixed-use development is already staking its claim as a hot dining (and drinking) destination. While the standing-room-only ramen shop encourages diners to get in, chow down, and get out quickly, the vibe at chef Daniele Puleo's neighboring Italian-focused market is considerably more leisurely thanks to a full bar and a plethora of picnic tables on the patio.
There's plenty on offer if you're looking to grab-and-go, though: Depending on your personal level of laziness, you can get food that's ready to eat like pizzas and baguette sandwiches, or items that require just a bit of heat and prepping at home. A prepared foods case is stocked with a rotating selection of items like turkey meatballs, roasted vegetables, mashed cauliflower, bolognese arancini, and various pasta and grain salads. Snag a bottle of wine from the expansive selection and you've got the makings of a minimal-effort dinner at home. Scattered throughout the store you'll also find pantry necessities (and not-so-necessities) like imported canned tomatoes, dried pastas, jars of truffle aioli, Nutella, and other sweets from local purveyors like Bark Chocolate.
More on those pizzas: They're pseudo-Neapolitan in style, with a puffy, slightly charred crust and toppings applied with a light hand. Cane Rosso haters who find the pizzas from Jay Jerrier's empire "too soggy" will probably like these: The crust is thin and crisp enough to avoid the so-called "tip sag." Patrons can build their own from a long list of fresh ingredients that includes prosciutto, arugula, zucchini, artichokes, eggplant, and soppressata, but the decided-for-you options are also tasty — particularly one topped with paper-thin slices of potato, slivers of red onion, and a sprinkling of oregano.
There's also a reach-in refrigerated case where the lunch crowd can grab quick stuff to take back to the office — think gemelli pasta with pesto and chicken, and salads with several housemade dressing options (truffle vinaigrette, jalapeño ranch, Caesar).
For those confused by the market's free-form setup, a chalkboard sign overhead explains how to proceed: pizzas can be ordered from any register, and your name will be called when it's ready. Prepared foods like the arancini and sandwiches are ordered from one of the friendly staffers manning the case; the items will be weighed and packaged and slapped with a price sticker so they can then be paid for at any of the registers. If you plan to stick around and enjoy your pie with an adult beverage, both pizza and booze can be ordered together from the bar. Besides plenty of thoughtfully selected wines (including well-priced prosecco by the glass), beers on tap include a solid selection of local heavy hitters like Peticolas Velvet Hammer and Revolver Blood and Honey.
With hours starting bright and early at 7 a.m., the espresso bar and a muffin from the pastry case is a viable option for the early-morning commuter set; for a more leisurely breakfast or brunch, eggs Benedict, breakfast croissants, and pancakes are served till 11 a.m. While Sylvan Thirty residents are no doubt eagerly awaiting the arrival of more options like Tacodeli and Whisk Crepes Cafe, CiboDivino's versatility in catering to breakfast, brunch, lunch, happy hour, and dinner crowds is already making the development seem downright habitable.
