Village Baking Co. Brings Carb Heaven to Lowest Greenville

The new boulangerie opens May 14.

Prepare to shelve your low-carb diet: Local baking wizards Village Baking Co., supplier of countless local restaurants, are opening a second boulangerie outpost on Lowest Greenville Avenue next week, right next door to Blind Butcher.

Boulangerie is of course français for bakery, and VBC specializes in French-style breads and pastries: Think crusty baguettes (which a press release promises will come fresh out of the oven every few hours), the custardy rum-spiked beauties known as canelés, pain au chocolat, croissants, and brioche, just to name a few. The new outpost will expand on the menu of the University Blvd. original with the addition of simple sandwiches, such as a croque monsieur or duck confit.

Coffee, espresso, and hot tea are on offer to ensure VBC's destiny as a popular breakfast destination. The bakery officially opens Thursday, May 14; business hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
