Filament has been mentioned by just about every publication in town as one of the most anticipated spring or summer openings — but now it seems Matt McCallister's second restaurant won't make landfall till autumn.
The folks at Braindead Brewing noticed that construction finally began on the neighboring space last week, posting photos to Facebook that reveal the empty innards of the space that used to be a machinist shop (plus a TABC application hanging in the window) at 2626 Main. Per PR for McCallister & co., Filament is now eyeing an October 2015 opening.
Filament will be the younger, more casual (and hopefully, more affordable?) sibling to Design District sensation FT33. As previously reported, the restaurant plans to "honor simply prepared ingredients of the South." The bar will feature seasonal drinks with a Southern bent — think juleps, Sazeracs, and milk punch — plus 100-plus wine options and is being put together by Jeff Gregory, FT33's general manager and sommelier who will hold the title of managing partner at Filament.
