The first 100-degree day of the summer is expected to hit this weekend, and right on time, Melt Ice Creams has set up shop in Oak Cliff. Kari Crowe's Fort Worth ice creamery began serving at Urban Acres on the 4th of July, and going forward it'll sling scoops every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Four inaugural flavors will be offered in cups or housemade waffle cones: Beans (Madagascar vanilla), Chocolate Chocolate (made with Dude, Sweet Chocolate), Nectar of the Gods (vanilla with nectarine jam) and Coconut Curry (a vegan flavor made with coconut milk). Per a press release, the pop-up residency will last anywhere from three to six months.
More changes are afoot at Urban Acres, too: The farmstead will now focus less on retail sales, and will only be open to the public three days a week, with the rest of its time devoted to private events and classes. A new menu will feature handmade pastas and pizzas made with local, seasonal ingredients. The new format debuts this weekend; going forward hours will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It's BYOB for now, but a beer and wine license is in the works.
