Wild About Harry's Starts Scooping This Friday in Deep Ellum

Hallelujah.

Whitney Filloon

The long-awaited Deep Ellum location of Wild About Harry's has finally announced its grand opening date: this Friday, August 21. In addition to its house specialty of frozen custard, the restaurant at the corner of Hall and Commerce streets will also serve hot dogs and a few other savory items such as Frito pie and grilled cheese.

The frozen treat selection alone should be plenty to keep the ice cream-starved neighborhood entertained, however. Besides cups, cones, and take-home pints of its super-rich custard, Wild About Harry's also does shakes and sundaes doctored up with various toppings, from sprinkles and waffle bits to hot fudge and butterscotch sauce. Vanilla and chocolate flavors are always available, along with a rotating selection of other varieties such as mint chocolate chip, pistachio, Heath bar, coconut, and rum raisin.

Wild About Harry's opened a second location in the Fort Worth suburb of Burleson earlier this summer; the Deep Ellum outpost has been in the works since at least September 2013. While the interior of the restaurant appears all set up and ready to go, the exterior still needs one very important addition: a sign to let everyone know that the frozen custard slinger has arrived.
