Kitchen switcheroo at do-gooder downtown restaurant Cafe Momentum: Chef de cuisine Eric Shelton is leaving to pursue another opportunity in the far-off land of Kansas, the restaurant announced via Facebook. His last night in the kitchen will be this Saturday. Shelton's resume includes a stint running the show at Trinity Groves' Kitchen LTO, as well as the culinary program at the Music Hall at Fair Park.
Stepping up to fill his role is current Cafe Momentum pastry chef Sarah Green, who previously worked in pastry at Oak. Executive sous chef Justin Box also recently left Cafe Momentum and has returned to his former place of work, Bolsa.
Cafe Momentum provides culinary and hospitality experience to at-risk youth, with the aim of arming them with the skills to succeed. The sophisticated cooking nabbed the restaurant a three-star review from the Dallas Morning News earlier this year. The restaurant is gearing up to host a fall pop-up series that will include Top Chef alum Tiffany Derry, Uchi's Nilton Borges Jr., a pitmaster's picnic featuring some of the biggest names in Texas barbecue, and Masterchef contestants Jennie Kelly and Ben Starr; tickets are now on sale.
