Switcheroo in Uptown: Boxwood T&G has called it quits to make way for a new concept that, according to applications filed with the TABC, will be called City Council Restaurant & Bar.
Reached for comment via email, Boxwood owner Tommy DeAlano (who's also behind Henderson Ave. nightlife staple Candleroom) says, "We were approached by a different group that wanted that location and after much deliberation, simply made us an offer we couldn't pass up." Renovations on the space began over the weekend, and the new concept is expected to open soon; stay tuned for more on what's to come from the rather municipal-sounding City Council.
Boxwood opened in the summer of 2013; prior to that, the space at 2901 Thomas Ave. was occupied by TABC (Thomas Avenue Beverage Company), an Uptown staple for nearly two decades.
