If you haven’t already registered to vote, you won’t be able to cast your ballot in this year’s presidential election. The deadline officially passed at 12 a.m. this morning, but a Denny’s in Plano helped ensure that everyone who waited until the very last second had a chance to register.
CBS DFW reports that a Denny’s outpost on Preston Road in Plano played host to a seriously last-minute voter registration drive on Tuesday night. Deputy voter registrars posted up at the restaurant to help people get their voter registration forms in on time as they dined.
The drive was organized by Yvette Jack, a Dallas software engineer. “It’s going pretty good so far,” said Jack. “More than five million Texans eligible to vote likely were not registered by Tuesday night’s deadline, enough to change the outcome of the 2012 presidential race.”
The voter registration drive concluded at midnight. It’s just a shame that all these newly-registered voters won’t be able to cast their ballots for pancakes come November 8.
