Step Inside Hypnotic Emporium, East Dallas' New 1920s Inspired Ice Cream Heaven

Ice cream stuffed donuts and milkshakes await.

Amy McCarthy is a reporter at Eater.com, focusing on pop culture, policy and labor, and only the weirdest online trends.

Known for its over-the-top fried dough, you probably shouldn't expect for the minds behind Hypnotic Donuts to do anything subtly. Owner James St. Peter's newest venture, Hypnotic Emporium, is a 1920s-style soda shop with plenty of quirky character.

In addition to the selection of old-school candies, available by the pound, you'll find a selection of Hypnotic Emporium-exclusive frozen treats from Denton's Beth Marie's Ice Cream, in flavors like Bees Knees (lavender and honey) and Texas whiskey. Grab a handful (not literally) of your favorite candy, maybe Runts or Sixlets, and ask the snappily-dressed soda jerk to smash 'em right into your ice cream.

Or, you could order The Dream, a warm, griddled donut that's cut in half and stuffed with an ice cream (or two!) of your choice. Eater photographer Kathy Tran got a mouthwatering sneak peek at Hypnotic Emporium, which officially opens its doors Wednesday, March 2.
