Considering the ridiculous temperatures outside, most of Dallas is in constant pursuit of some way to cool the hell off. Snow cones generally tend to be one of the most delicious ways to lower one’s internal temperature, which makes the arrival of Ruby’s Sno-Balls particularly exciting this time of year.
You might have seen Ruby’s Sno-Balls at spots like Deep Ellum Postal & Coffee, but now the upstart sno-ball cart will officially set up shop in its first brick and mortar location this summer – at least temporarily. Until the temperatures cool down, you’ll be able to find Ruby’s Sno-Balls in the space just behind La Victoria Mexican Restaurant from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
And this ain’t your average snow cone, either. Sno-balls are a creation of New Orleans, known for their soft and fluffy ice. Ruby’s kicks things up a notch with bespoke flavor syrups like basil grapefruit, Vietnamese coffee, and orchid-vanilla cream. “When I see a cup of finely shaved ice, I see a blank canvas with unlimited possibilities,” says Ruby’s founder Jessica Fultner. “My mission is to offer a simple treat that is delicious, fresh, and free of added preservatives.
The stand will serve up its unique, handmade sno-balls throughout the end of October. At present, Fultner is waiting for final permitting approval from the City, and tentatively expects a soft opening to kick off just in time for July 4th.
