Dine like the chefs do

When he isn’t crafting recipes for uber-healthy salads and wraps, Unleavened Fresh Kitchen’s Tom Dynan has to eat somewhere. Perhaps not surprisingly, when he heads out for dinner (or lunch) on his own, Dynan doesn’t exclusively stick to superfoods and kale.

In this installment of Where Chefs Eat, we asked Dynan to dish on his favorite spots for lunch, dinner, brunch, tacos, and more. If you want to dine like the chefs do, this list is a pretty solid place to start.

Favorite breakfast or brunch spot?

Breakfast tacos are always a solid choice at Rusty Taco. For brunch, I am a huge fan of both Toulouse and Smoke.

Where do you go for a quick lunch?

Monkey King Noodle Company in Deep Ellum is an awesome choice for some great house made soup dumplings and noodles. Unleavened is also an excellent choice here.

Where/what do you eat after you get off work late?

I cook at home a lot, so there is usually some pretty great leftovers waiting for me. Otherwise, Velvet Taco is a great option.

Where do you like to drink, and what do you usually order?

I have always been a big fan of The Quarter Bar in Uptown. I use to live around the block form there. I am a beer guy, but it depends on the occasion. The bar at Savor, at Klyde Warren Park, has an awesome wine selection and an incredible vibe.

Do you have a favorite burger in town?

There are a ton of good choices here. My favorites places for burgers are Offsite Kitchen and Rodeo Goat. They both are fantastic experiences.

Favorite spots for Thai? Indian? Sushi? Go.

Thai is best at Asian Mint. For Indian, India Palace is a home run. Be sure to order a Kingfisher to take it over the top. The sushi at Blue Sushi and Sake is pretty legit, as well.

How about hidden gems or hole-in-the-walls you swear by?

Mot Hai Ba is an awesome hidden gem in Lakewood. They have some of the best Vietnamese in town.

Any other favorite restaurants elsewhere in the U.S. (or beyond)?

George’s in Alys Beack, FL or Dune by Jean Georges Vongerichten at One & Only Ocean Club in Nassau, Bahamas. Each is a destination unto itself that won’t disappoint.
