At least part of the magic of the State Fair of Texas is in that you can only stuff your face with fried Oreos and whatever the hell Pulled Pork Funyun Dings are for a few fleeting weeks in the fall. But a veteran of the Fair’s fried food scene hopes to change all that.
The Dallas Morning News reports that Isaac Rousso, creator of this year’s Most Creative winning cookie fries, will open a diner-style concept called State Fair Treats inside the Walmart at 425 Coit Road. The restaurant will feature a 45-item menu that celebrates “the treats families enjoy every year when they make an annual pilgrimage to the fair,” Rousso said in a statement.
The concept is currently slated to open multiple restaurants across DFW. The chain is also in talks about a “nation-wide” expansion, which would bring State Fair Treats to Walmart stores across the country depending on how things go in Texas.
State Fair Treats is slated to open on September 20, which means that you’ll be able to gorge yourself on deep-fried delights a full ten days before the State Fair of Texas officially opens the gates on September 30.
