Developed in part by Malai Kitchen’s Yasmin and Braden Wages, the arrival of Bahn Shop in 2014 was an attempt to bring fast-casual Vietnamese fare to the masses. Now, after more than two years of serving up sandwiches, the restaurant has officially closed its doors.
CultureMap reports that the lone Dallas outpost of the Yum! Brands-developed restaurant has shuttered, citing a change in ownership. "Banh Shop was previously a project of Yum! Brands, and they remain an investor," says restaurant spokesman Rick VanWarner. "But the rights to the concept were acquired by an investment group, and the location near SMU was not part of the transaction."
At this point, the future of Bahn Shop remains unclear. The location at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport’s Terminal D will continue to operate under the new ownership, and future expansion of the concept is still planned, though what exactly those restaurants will look like remains to be seen.
