It’s getting closer to opening day for Mockingbird Diner, the new restaurant across from Love Field that is bringing together two Dallas culinary stalwarts: Maple & Motor’s Jack Perkins and Good 2 Go Taco’s Jeana Johnson.

Mockingbird Diner is currently hiring for all positions, with job fairs Thursday, Friday, and Monday (see the Facebook post for more info). But D magazine reports that Mockingbird Diner will open on Thanksgiving day for a little Friendsgiving of sorts. Perkins will serve free food on 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on November 23 at 3130 W. Mockingbird Lane.

“I started doing this four years ago because I knew enough orphans who needed a place to be,” Perkins told D, and he’s re-starting the tradition even though Mockingbird Diner isn’t even open yet.
