Velvet Taco, the trendy, new age taqueria that’s a favorite of the post-bar crowd, is putting a third DFW location on Greenville Avenue.
The new location opens on Monday, Dec. 18 at 4622 Greenville Ave and marks the fifth Texas outpost and sixth overall for the late-night brand, which operates in Chicago, Austin, and Houston as well. Taco lovers will find the same menu of Velvet’s internationally inspired standbys like spicy tikka chicken, a riff on the Indian chicken tikka masala dish with cilantro basmati rice and raita crema; fish n' chips with beer battered Atlantic cod, curry mayo, and malted french fries, and more. This outpost will also offer the same back door chicken pick-up as the Henderson Ave spot.
At the back door, knock, and hand the Velvet Taco staff $20 in cash. After a few minutes, someone will return with a whole rotisserie chicken, six tortillas (corn or flour), two sides of elotes, homemade Heat Sauce, and roasted corn pico de gallo. “It may sound a little sketchy, but in-the-know diners swear by it,” the press release promises.
“We opened our very first Velvet Taco in the Knox/Henderson neighborhood just six years ago and to this day, we continue to have lines out the door,” Velvet Taco’s president Clay Dover said in a statement. “We’ve always wanted to expand in Dallas, we were just waiting to find the perfect location. So now that we have, we are ready to open our doors to start serving our fresh take on the every day taco.”
Update, December 13, 6:16 p.m.: A representative from Velvet Taco has reached out to Eater to clarify that the Greenville Avenue location will not actually have a drive-thru window as originally stated in the press release. This post has been updated to reflect that change.
Velvet Taco opens next week at 4622 Greenville Ave, and will operate Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.; Thursday 10 a.m. to 3 a.m.; Friday 10 a.m. to 5 a.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 a.m.; and Sunday 9 a.m. to 2 a.m.
