Fresh off joining one of the NBA’s most elite clubs after scoring his 30,000th point, Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki has earned plenty of praise in Dallas. But sometimes, words just aren’t enough to explain how much this city loves the Dunking Deutschman. Which might have something to do with the adorably bizarre gift that Nowitzki received from a random fan yesterday.
Via his Twitter account, Nowitzki posted a photo of a potato emblazoned with a pretty hilarious photo of himself. Perhaps not surprisingly, Twitter exploded upon seeing Nowitzki’s potato present, which resulted in the tweet being shared more than 35,000 times.
Feast your eyes on the infamous potato below:
Whoever sent me this POTATO!!!! Much appreciated.... pic.twitter.com/fVaqRvvgTn

In case you’re (rightfully) wondering why the hell someone would send a basketball player a potato, it’s definitely a thing. The potato was delivered by Potato Parcel, a Plano-based company that made an appearance on Shark Tank. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to make a deal with Mavericks owner Mark Cuban (who called the idea “stupid on a stick), but the company eventually scored a $50,000 investment with castmate Kevin O’Leary.
Unfortunately, Nowitzki won’t be able to turn his potato into German potato salad or knodel, as Potato Parcel advises against actually eating these bizarre gifts.
