For folks in Oak Cliff, life just isn’t complete without the killer Mexican cuisine at El Corazon De Tejas, a neighborhood institution. Sadly, though, those days will soon be over.

This morning, Dallas taco expert Jose R. Ralat (a.k.a. Taco Trail) tweeted that he had received an email from El Corazon’s Gilbert Cuellar announcing that the restaurant would officially close its doors on April 30. That’s a pretty sharp turn of events from earlier this month, when the restaurant’s owners told CultureMap that El Corazon had plans to stay open indefinitely.

Check out Ralat’s tweet below:

Now, it appears that a deal has been reached. It’s a familiar story in the neighborhood, where developers are furiously buying up land to build apartment complexes. In 2015, the space that once housed Zoli’s NY Pizza saw a similar fate.

The Cuellars, who are said to be scoping out a new location for their restaurant, have not issued a public statement on El Corazon’s closure just yet. Stay tuned for more details on where this phoenix plans to rise from the ashes.

UPDATE: Check out this excerpt of the email sent by Cuellar announcing the restaurant’s closure. According to Cuellar, the restaurant’s lease is up, and the building that houses El Corazon has been sold.

After over four years of success at El Corazon, we must inform you that our building is being sold and our lease has ended. Therefore, El Corazon will be closing at the end of business on Sunday, April 30, 2017.

To everyone else, we thank you for all of your support and patronage and for promoting El Corazon throughout our time. We will sorely miss each and everyone of you.

We plan to re-establish El Corazon in another location with the same menu and recipes as early as this summer. But for now, we invite you to visit Fajita Ranch in Plano. Many of our El Corazon team will be relocating there until the new location opens; so you will be among old friends.

We wish all of you the best for a prosperous future and thank you for celebrating four wonderful years of Vintage Tex-Mex at El Corazon de Tejas.
