After closing its sister restaurant El Fenix earlier this year in Addison, Firebird Restaurant Group will open an outpost of Meso Maya in the building.

Construction is currently underway on the space at 5280 Belt Line Road to bring Meso Maya’s more upscale vibe to the former casual Tex-Mex spot, reports CultureMap. In addition to revamping that location, Firebird also has plans to open a Meso Maya at 4900 West Park Boulevard in Plano later this summer.

According to the group, El Fenix’s shutter in Addison isn’t related to declining revenues, and the chain is currently looking for another suitable location in the neighborhood. Firebird has deemed Meso Maya a “better fit” in the neighborhood, which is already home to plenty of upscale Tex-Mex restaurants, including Mesero, and La Comida and Gloria’s, both of which occupy the same Village on the Parkway shopping center. As such, the Tex-Mex competition in Addison will soon be stiffer than ever.

Meso Maya is expected to arrive in Plano sometime in August, and Addison will follow sometime in the fall, likely around October.
