Sissy's Southern Kitchen and Bar Shuts Down Temporarily

The closure could be permanent

Sissy's Southern Kitchen and Bar is pushing pause on its buttermilk-soaked fried chicken. Culturemap Dallas reports that restaurateur and former Next Food Network Star Lisa Garza closed her Henderson Avenue restaurant in early September, and the temporary closure might become permanent.

The problem stems from what Garza calls “major infrastructure issues” with the building. As Garza works with the landlord to fix these issues, she’s also contemplating whether or not to renew the lease. “We're trying to decide with our landlord how to best move forward,” she told Culturemap Dallas.

Garza’s run into a spate of bad luck with buildings: in 2015, the fried chicken maven planned on opening a new restaurant in downtown Dallas, but then the real estate deal fell through. When Sissy's Southern Kitchen and Bar originally opened in 2012, it packed in crowds for the crispy chicken, biscuits, deviled eggs, pimento cheese, and "Grandma's layered salad" piled with peas and Hellman's mayo — all washed down with Champagne.
