Ferris Wheelers Is Set to Open This Month

Actual 50-foot Ferris wheel and all

One of Dallas’s most anticipated fall openings will be here sooner rather than later. Pitmaster Doug Pickering’s Ferris Wheelers Backyard BBQ is set for a late September opening in the Dallas Design District. The restaurant is hiring servers, bartenders, hosts and kitchen staff right now.

Pickering — who owns catering company and BBQ school D.W.P. — will cook Texas-style smoked meats using post oak wood and an offset wood-fired rotisserie smoker. Brisket, ribs, house-made sausage, honey-brined smoked turkey breast and Carolina-style pork shoulder will all be on the menu.

As for sides, expect to find smoked barbecue beans, smoked green beans, barbecue mac and cheese, jalapeño bacon cole slaw and Southwestern potato salad.

There’s truth in advertising too with that Ferris Wheelers name. There’s going to be a 50-foot Ferris wheel that diners can actually ride on in between craft beers and cocktails and barbecue sessions. Live music and drinking games like bags and oversized Kerplunk will add to the carnival-like feel.

UPDATE: Via a press release, Ferris Wheelers has announced that it will kick open the doors on Monday, September 25. The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. and serve food until 10 p.m., but the bar will be open later.
