Uptown’s Urban Taco Will Shutter to Make Way for Another Velvet Taco Outpost

Urban Taco says it outgrew Uptown, but is still thriving in Mockingbird Station

At the end of the month, the McKinney Avenue outpost of Urban Taco will close its doors to make way for a different purveyor of tacos.

Urban Taco founder, Marcus Pineyro, says his taco spot outgrew its Uptown location at 3411 McKinney Ave, and they decided after nine years not to renew the lease. Urban Taco’s newly opened Mockingbird Station outpost, with its expansive patio and updated look, will serve as a model for future stores. In its place, a new outpost of Velvet Taco will open, bringing the total number of Dallas outposts of the growing chain to three.

“We are very much alive and well at the Mockingbird Station restaurant and look forward to taking the newly designed and branded concept to other areas,” Pineyro said in a statement. “Uptown is no longer in our business plan, but we know Velvet Taco will do very well there.”

Urban Taco will close its Uptown location after dinner service on March 31.
