It Looks Like Matt McCallister Is Planning a New Neighborhood Restaurant in Oak Lawn

It’s called Homewood

A weirdly mysterious new Instagram account created for a restaurant called Homewood indicates that chef Matt McCallister is likely planning his new venture.

No address is listed for the secretive new eatery, which isn’t directly connected to McCallister. Renderings of the restaurant uploaded to the website for Design Hound, an Austin interior design firm, indicate that it will open somewhere in Oak Lawn. The real smoking gun is McCallister’s use of a hashtag that’s been exclusively used by the chef in conjunction with this forthcoming restaurant.

In photos posted to his personal Instagram account, McCallister shows off smoked maitake mushrooms that will be transformed into multiple ferments, and tomatoes preserved with green garlic powder, both hashtagged with #homewooddallas. Details beyond that on the menu have not been announced, but Design Hound’s renderings also indicate that Homewood will have an open-fire hearth, and diners will have a direct view into the kitchen.

Earlier this summer, McCallister shuttered FT33, the flagship restaurant that earned him countless nods from critics and culinary experts, including multiple James Beard Award nominations. When FT33 closed, McCallister hinted that another restaurant was in the works.

McCallister has not yet officially announced Homewood, but it looks like it will debut sometime in late 2018. Scope out some of the evidence for yourself below:
