A little more than two years in the making, Fort Worth smoked meat icon Heim Barbecue and Catering is set to open its second location this spring.
Back in December 2016, Eater first reported that pitmaster Travis Heim and his wife and partner Emma Heim would open a second location on White Settlement Road. Later, the plans changed, and so did the location — the barbecue spot’s second outpost is set to land at Fort Worth’s River District, and diners can expect a much bigger space with plenty of parking. The second Heim Barbecue will occupy a 7,500 square foot building, according to a press release, complete with a covered patio and outdoor beer garden.
Heim will also be able to maximize his barbecue output at the new location, which will house a total of eight smokers, nearly three times the amount of smokers currently in use at the first permanent location of Heim Barbecue. Considering that this restaurant first began as a trailer that earned a cult following, the Heims are likely pretty stoked at the chance to prepare and serve their succulent bacon burnt ends and brisket in a bigger location.
“We only had $100 to our names when we opened our food truck four years ago and we never dreamed of owning not one, but two restaurants,” Heim said in a statement. “Our second location is truly a testament to our incredible guests who have supported our vision from the very beginning, and we can’t wait to invite everyone into our new River District home.”
No official opening date for Heim Barbecue’s second location has been set just yet, but look for it to arrive in March. Stay tuned for more details.
