After reporting last week that Yardbird Southern Table & Bar would open its fifth location in Dallas, Eater has now learned the address for the forthcoming James Beard semi-finalist Southern restaurant from Miami.
Yardbird will debut on the ground floor of PwC Tower, a glossy high-rise facing Klyde Warren Park at 2121 North Pearl Street, according CEO John Kunkel. The Southern-themed eatery is slated for an early 2020 debut with January or February as the target. Interior design in the 7,000 square foot space will be completed by NYC-based Rockwell Group and will feature a lighter and brighter aesthetic as compared to its other locations.
A native of Georgia, Kunkel says that his family’s recipes inform the menu in Yardbird’s other locations and will make the trek to Dallas alongside some as-yet-unnamed menu additions just for North Texas. At Yardbird’s Los Angeles location, for example, the eatery added juices and more veggies to the menu in salad and sides form. In Dallas, that could mean the additions of steak or fish dishes, although more veggies would be nice in a land of heavy meat-laden fare.
When Yardbird debuts locally, diners can expect menu stalwarts like Kunkel’s great-grandmother’s fried chicken that’s brined for 27 hours before frying, alongside shrimp & grits made with veal bone broth and local seafood. The dish is so labor-intensive that it reportedly takes 36 hours to make.
Yardbird is set to debut in early 2020. Stay tuned for more information on its impending Dallas arrival.
