Panther City BBQ also got a nod

Texas Monthly just released a list of the top 25 new barbecue destinations across the state, and two Dallas area spots made the cut.

The pub releases its coveted collection of the top 50 Texas barbecue joints only every four years (the next list drops in 2021), but this second-ever “midterm” report aims to highlight the latest worthy contenders to enter the state’s crowded meat market.

The two newcomer picks for Dallas are:

Panther City BBQ (Forth Worth)

Smoke Sessions (Royse City)

What makes two-year-old Smoke Sessions worth the hour or so drive East is its “flawless smoked brisket, stunning house-made sausages, and an array of satisfying sides made from scratch,” notes the pub.

Texas Monthly decided to start a midterm list in 2015 because “the level of activity in the Texas barbecue scene had gotten so intense that it seemed wrong to make readers wait to hear about the worthy rookies until we released our next Top 50 list,” notes the pub.

To qualify, contenders had to have a permanent addresses and regular hours, and only original locations were considered.
