Hillside Tavern, the newest restaurant from the minds behind Dallas dining institutions Rapscallion, Boulevardier, and Veritas Wine Room, has officially opened its doors in Hillside Village.
The restaurant quietly made its debut over the weekend, and is set to officially open for dinner service tonight at 6465 East Mockingbird Lane. The dining room boasts some fixtures that will be familiar to Dallas restaurant enthusiasts — the dining tables used to be at chef Matt McCallister’s now-shuttered FT33 in the Design District, and some chairs were recovered after Tim Byres’s Smoke closed in Plano.
Not everything is something borrowed, though. New, original art by local artist Steve Lawrence featuring Texas legends like Willie Nelson adorns some of the wall space, while exposed brick and plenty of beer taps lend the cozy, neighborhood vibe that co-owners Brooks Anderson, Bradley Anderson, and chef Nathan Tate set out to create.
As one might expect from the owners of Veritas Wine Room, Boulevardier and Rapscallion, Hillside Tavern has drinks more than covered. A dozen mostly local beers on tap, plus an expertly curated wine list and a full menu of cocktails. Highlights from the menu include a patty melt, a fried chicken sandwich called “The Long Walk,” burgers and muffulettas as well as dining options for kids. Cocktails of note include a Cuban daiquiri, an Aperol spritz and, naturally, a Boulevardier.
Hillside Tavern does not take reservations, and opens for dinner service at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8.
