Just like us, most chefs across the city are stuck at home when they’re not working in their restaurants. And because chefs are cooking all the time, it’s not surprising that they’re on the hunt for the city’s best takeout options.
From excellent barbecue to top-notch sushi, here’s where some of Dallas’s biggest chefs are getting their takeout fix right now.
Chef Jeramie Robison, City Hall Bistro at The Adolphus
Robison’s takeout staples over the past few months include neighborhood favorites like Cheesesteak House, Sketches of Spain, Lockhart BBQ and Home Run Pizza. “I’m supporting the Oak Cliff community as much as possible,” he says.
Uno Immanivong, Red Stix Asian Street Food
“One of my faves at the moment is Namo, starting with omakase and I’ll add a side of nori and make my own hand roll,” Immanivong says. “Also [Thai and Lao restaurant] Nalinh is another favorite.”
Chef Jimmy Park, Nori Handroll Bar
According to Park, he’s been hitting a lot of Asian restaurants over the past few months, including Korean favorite Doma Seolleongtang, Yama Sushi, and Kurobota Ramen and Tonkatsu in Carrollton. Community Grill Barbecue has also been a favorite.
Chef Tiffany Derry, Roots Chicken Shak
“Pho Mac in Plano is my go to,” Derry says. “Cookie Society in Plano for my sweet tooth, Zense Thai in Irving so good I even drive a bit farther to get there. Sara’s Market & Bakery is turning into our Friday night place. The food is cooked fresh and I really like it.
Andrea Pedraza and Cindy Pedraza Puente, CocoAndre Chocolatier
The proprietors of this Bishop Arts chocolate shop are really into the vegan tamales from Casa Masa right now, along with meat-free eats at Vegan Food House and Alebrijes. “Cactus in Elmwood is another hole-in-the-wall small restaurant,” Pedraza says. “Oh, and El Norteno Tacos. He has a taco bike on Sundays!”
Seth Brammer of the forthcoming Lenore’s Bagels:
“We’ve been crushing crepes from Whisk Crepes Cafe during Coronageddon,” Brammer says. He’s also a fan of longstanding taqueria La Banqueta and Ka Tip Thai.
Chef Anastacia Quinones of José on Lovers (currently recovering from COVID-19):
After contracting COVID-19, chef Anastacia Quinones is finally on the mend, and she’s celebrating with some fancy takeout. “My to-gos are kinda bougie,” she says. “I love Il Bracco, their meatballs are insane.” She’s also looking forward to a curbside margarita from her Lovers Lane restaurant Jose when she’s allowed to drink again, and considers healthy eats from True Food Kitchen and tacos from Trompo must-haves.
