New York City’s Van Leeuwen to Open Ice Cream Shop in West Village

Featuring a new Dallas-inspired flavor called Strawberry Margarita.

In freezer cases, dozens of containers of Van Leeuwen ice cream sit. They are orange, green, blue, and purple.

Just in time for summer, Van Leeuwen is jumping out of the Central Market freezer section and into a storefront in the West Village at 3699 McKinney Avenue. The first Dallas outpost for the ice cream brand will open on Saturday, May 7. It will be the company’s 30th shop.

Two cups of Van Leeuwen ice cream sit in pink cups with the company logo on them. The flavors appear to be vanilla with stripes of chocolate and strawberry and mint. In the background is a yellow tile wall. The ice cream sits on a white marble counter with grey veins.

Van Leeuwen doesn’t just show up in new cities empty-handed. Working in conjunction with woman-owned Ego Tequila out of Fort Worth, the company has created a unique flavor inspired by Dallas: Strawberry Margarita. Sounds like someone caught those messy seasons of the Real Housewives of Dallas.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of a carton of Van Leeuwen, the brand is known for its vegan options.

“Dallas has been on our radar for quite some time and we’re thrilled that we’re about to officially be a part of this iconic Texas city,” Ben Van Leeuwen, co-founder and CEO of Van Leeuwen, said in a press release. “We spent a lot of time identifying where we wanted to expand to and Dallas was at the top of our list because of its friendly, food-focused and diverse community.”

All comers can get a $1 scoop on opening day.
