Summertime and the living is easy. It’s also when some of the restaurant openings we’re most looking forward to in Dallas, and even a few of the ‘burbs, are coming. While making summer travel plans, consider a staycation to eat at some of the great spots opening in town. They’re so lovely you can build an entire food weekend around them.
Stillwell’s

Diners won’t have to wait long to eat at Stillwell’s. It’s open inside the newly opened Hotel Swexan in the Harwood District today. Under the auspices of executive chef Raymond Bocanegra, it will serve steaks, steaks, and steaks all sourced from Harwood Hospitality’s proprietary wagyu beef program. If you’ve been waiting to try it out, this is the place to make a reservation. The menu also features a selection of shellfish and caviar, lobster corn dogs, beef tallow fries, and more. It’s going to be decadent.
Via Triozzi
Still on our list and pushed back from a spring opening is this family-owned and operated Italian restaurant that will be on Lower Greenville. To set the scene, this place is named for a 15th-century villa surrounded by olive groves in the hills above Florence. Owner Leigh Hutchinson is working with her whole family, including taking inspiration from recipes from her Sicilian grandmother, Angelina. And it will feature a pasta room with floor-to-ceiling windows facing Greenville Ave, so passers-by can watch the magic happen. Look for it to open in July.
Petra and the Beast
One of Dallas’s most notable homegrown chefs, Misti Norris, is anticipating opening Petra and the Beast in its new location this summer. Details on it are scant, except it is moving to 601 N. Haskell Avenue in Lakewood, in the former Lakewood Smokehouse location. It’s three times as big as the current space in Old East Dallas, and we are staying tuned for that opening date.
Quartino Ristorante and Wine Bar

This Chicago neighborhood restaurant and wine bar brings Italian, done Chi-town style, to the Grandscape in The Colony. Opening on June 19, it will be two levels of indoor and outdoor dining space with a menu featuring “artisanal salumi, housemade cheeses, Neapolitan-style pizza, handmade pasta, Aquerello risotto, and seafood,” according to a press release. And, obviously, an extensive wine list. It is the first new location of Quartino to open since 2005, following the original.

Before the summer is over, take a trip to Europe — or the West Village for a European getaway. Namo founder Brandon Cohanim partners with Ruben Rolon of the award-winning Joël Robuchon empire in Miami to bring a taste of France, Italy, and the surrounding Mediterranean to Texas. The main feature will be cocktails, with small plates to munch on from bespoke plating and glassware. Look for its doors to open late in the summer.
