| Ascension White Rock

A constant infusion of coffee is a requirement when there are only a few hours to work ahead of a major deadline or looming exam. And when the stir-craziness sets in after hours of studying, getting out of the house and parking at one of Dallas’ best coffee shops is a smart change of scenery.

Sadly, too many coffee shops are too noisy or offer sketchy Wi-Fi, making them not ideal. Every spot on this map serves up a safe place with good eats, plenty of caffeine, and, in some cases, sweets or boozy libations as a reward.

In addition to a menu of coffees and teas, this cozy shop and eatery also has wine — for those afternoons when there’s a load of boring stuff to do, and a pretty glass will make it all go a lot faster. It also serves light bites and cheese boards — and the bar has outlets for laptops and phones.

Sugar & Sage Bakery

Order a cup of Noble Coyote Coffee, a sweet treat or a sandwich, and dig into that pile of work in this Highland Park bakery. The well-appointed interiors are second only to the lovely outdoor patio.

Ascension Coffee - White Rock

Ascension is a coffee and wine bar, so if the studying gets a little stressful, switch to a glass of red or white. Comfy booths, free Wi-Fi, and cozy surroundings make all of Ascension’s locations excellent spots to get a lot of work done. Oh, and most locations have a dog-friendly patio in case Fido needs to come along as moral support.

Well Grounded Coffee Community

This Casa Linda coffee shop offers tables perfect for setting up a laptop and drinking a strong cup of coffee from Full City Rooster. It hires women in need and trains them in the skills of being a barista and the ins and outs of running a business. It also has a private room that can be reserved for meetings.

A Champagne bar might not be the first thought for a great space to work, but this one in Oak Lawn also offers Cafés Richard coffee — a brand from France that has only made its way to America recently — and sweet French bites. The room is so comfortable and well-designed that bringing a laptop to one of their tables or the circular bar for coffee or Champers and a light nosh sounds like a lovely place to finish those TPS reports.

Toasted Coffee + Kitchen

Toasted serves a bevy of homemade toasts, specialty sandwiches, and coffee in a bright, work-friendly space that’s frequently filled with folks on their laptops. Plus, the healthy fats in all that avocado toast are probably a brain booster.

Katy Coffee Lab

Light woods, lots of light, and a zen philosophy make this coffee lab a place to lean into focus work. It’s got Danish tables and slouchy couches, so laptop warriors and folks who need to bang it out on an iPhone or want to have a quick coffee meeting have options.

Opening Bell Coffee

This basement-level coffee shop is a cozy spot any time, but it really comes to life in the evenings, when the soft lights glow, and acoustic performances by singer/songwriters sometimes take to the stage. Working after hours here is a treat when it serves either caffeinated options or beers and wines with light bites.

Oddfellows

It might be tough to walk into this Bishop Arts cafe at dinner or brunch and snag a table, but during the workday, it’s a great spot to sit with some coffee made from house-roasted beans, a little snack, and crack away at the piles of work. It also offers a happy hour menu from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, including discounted appetizers, drinks, beers, and wines.

The Wild Detectives

The Wild Detectives is a fabulous bookstore, but it also serves beverages and snacks such as cheese boards and toasts to help fuel important studies. This spot also serves good cocktails and a solid wine list, but fair warning, the Wi-Fi is turned off on the weekends.
