Many a Dallasite has pledged allegiance to the burgers at OSK, and the fries are just as good. The thin-cut, skin-on specimens — made from russets for a punch of potato-y flavor — are twice-fried until perfectly crisp, then showered with a generous sprinkle of garlic salt. Don’t even thinking about just getting one order to split, because no one wants to share these fries.

Maple & Motor

The classic burger-and-fries combo gets solid representation at Maple & Motor, the Medical District’s greasy spoon. The spot’s burgers, tots, loaded tots, and fries are well loved by local chefs and Guy Fieri alike.

Rodeo Goat

Fried in 100% peanut oil, the fries at Rodeo Goat come “cheese fries surprise” or “cheese fries no surprise.” The “surprise” can be anything from chorizo to buffalo sauce, but it’s always a crowd-pleaser. Wash those puppies down with the Goat’s famous frozen Moontang.

Maple Leaf Diner

Great fries get topped with cheese curds, steamy brown gravy and, sometimes, chicken fried steak or pot roast. The massive plates of Canadian Classic Poutine at Maple Leaf Diner pile those taters pretty high, and represent Canada well in the U.S.A.

Super Chix

The fries at Super Chix are literally still whole potatoes just minutes before they’re served, and that freshness factor is part of what makes them irresistible. These babies are fried in 100% peanut oil and then topped with a choice of plain salt, rosemary black pepper, or signature sweet seasonings.

Hillstone

The best kind of fries are those that come in a really large pile, obviously. At Hillstone — or Houston's, for those who still insist on referring to it by its previous moniker — the crispy golden matchstick fries come in a giant mound, topped with a parmesan-herb sprinkle. Get them alongside the famed Hickory Burger or just eat them all by themselves along with a glass of wine.

Hopdoddy Burger Bar

This Austin transplant is obviously known for its burgers, but the fries are worth equal fanfare. Cut in-house from Kennebec potatoes, go fancy with the Parmesan truffle fries (served with a side of truffle aioli for an extra pungent punch) or get sloppy with an order topped with cheese and chile con carne.

Even regular ol' Ore-Ida tater tots are pretty damn tasty on their own, but just wait until the words bacon and cheddar are thrown into the mix. Don’t forget to dunk the stuffed tots in the addictive condiment that accompanies them, a simple-yet-genius concoction of ketchup, Sriracha, and honey.

La Duni Latin Cafe

The yucca fries at La Duni are one of the more unique offerings on this map. With their crispy, hot exterior and soft, potato-like insides, they’re certainly worth a try, and they’re best served sprinkled with queso fresco and dipped into La Duni’s fresh avocado mash or salsa.

Stackhouse

This burger joint with killer rooftop views has a secret. You see, the chili cheese fries at Stackhouse aren’t exactly on the menu. But ask about them for a huge pile that can easily serve four or more.

Uncle Uber's

Lots of sandwich shops only serve boring chips with their offerings, but not Uncle Uber’s. Their fries are thick-cut, fried to a deep golden brown, and pillowy soft on the inside, and tossed in a sweet-and-salty seasoning that will ensure every last one on the tray will be devoured. Be sure to throw in a side of the insanely tasty habanero ranch. (Side note: The burgers here are also totally underrated.)

Knife's avocado fries are an outlier on this list, but they bear mentioning. Tempura-battered and lightly fried until the insides are impossibly creamy, they’re also served in a adorably kitschy deep-fryer basket. It's like State Fair food, if State Fair food was actually good. As for potato fries, the ones here are pretty great and very unique: Extra thick-cut, crisp throughout, and covered in an addictive chimichurri-esque salsa verde.

Blatt Beer & Table

The hardest part about dining at Blatt Beer & Table off of Walnut Hill and 75 is not deciding whether or not to get fries with a meal (just do it), but which of the spot’s three varieties to choose. Decide between Classic Hand-Cut, Garlic Parmesan or Truffle, then choose adipping sauce to go with it. Good luck.

Velvet Taco

At Velvet Taco, brunch is served all day long, and that includes tater tots. The crisp tots and local egg side dish comes topped with herb goat cheese, smoky cheddar, avocado crema, chili butter, and bacon.

Dog Haus Biergarten Richardson

This Richardson house of hot dogs, sausages and burgers features both fries and tots in glorious abundance. Fries and tots come toasted golden brown and can be topped with chili, cheese, or both. Feeling crazy? Order up a Love Boat: tots or fries loaded with haus chili and slaw.

20 Feet Seafood Joint

Chef Marc Cassel is a master of all things fried, so obviously he's going to serve some killer fries. To round out your dinner of fried clams or a po'boy, order the 20 Feet fries. They’re cooked from frozen, but tossed in a mixture of fresh herbs and olive oil that makes them a compelling addition to this list.
