Meddlesome Moth
Meat pies have long been a staple on the menu at this Design District gastropub. These days, they're featuring two varieties: a classic "steak and stout" pie with carrots, peas, and mushrooms, and the more unusual rabbit version with braised collards, shiitakes, and hominy. (And as always, the Moth's beer experts can suggest the perfect pairing.)

Hibiscus
Over at swanky Henderson Avenue destination Hibiscus, always-inventive chef Graham Dodds is experimenting with individual meat pies filled with a rather unusual protein -- goat neck. Currently a featured special, the pies are served over oh-so-autumnal celery root puree.

Greenville Bar & Grill
The just-relaunched Greenville Avenue Bar & Grill is embracing the meat pie, thanks to chef Richard Sipovic. His rabbit pot pie is a comforting melange of vegetables and tender chunks of meat tucked in a silky, not-overly-thickened sauce under a flaky puff pastry roof. It comes flanked by a side of sweet-and-spicy sauced cauliflower, though the only accompaniment it really needs is a cold pint of beer.

CBD Provisions
CBD Provisions at the Joule Hotel has been serving delightful miniature cabrito pies since they opened last year, filled with tender stout-braised goat meat.

Blind Butcher
Chef Oliver Sitrin is crafting his own version of the classic shepherd's pie, which (naturally) includes bacon and game meats. You'll also find the English meat pie specialty known as Cornish pasties on the specials board.

Jonathon's Oak Cliff
Like just about everything else on the menu at this Oak Cliff staple, the chicken pot pie is huge and very filling. Chunks of roasted chicken are bound in a thick, hearty bechamel along with peas and potatoes, and at a mere $12 it's a bargain.

Reverie Bakeshop
The vegan and gluten-free crowds need not be left out of the meat (er, "meat") pie craze. Reverie Bakeshop satisfies both dietary needs with their version, which is available for lunch and can also be ordered ahead via their website for take-home purposes.

Idle Rich Pub
This dark wood-laden pub seems like the ideal setting to hunker down with a classic shepherd's pie and a pint of Guinness on a cold, blustery day. Idle Rich keeps it classic with ground beef and vegetables capped off with a thick layer of fluffy mashed potatoes.

Baker's Ribs
This Deep Ellum barbecue spot has an Original Fried Pie Shop inside it, and in addition to sweet versions, they've also got deep-fried meat pies. The brisket version is a one-way ticket to FoodComaville, but damn it tastes delicious.

Black Friar Pub
This Uptown pub (and sibling to Idle Rich) caters to both meat-eaters and vegetarians with their puff pastry-topped pies: There's a classic chicken-and-vegetable version, or go meatless with the mushroom and leek variety. Either one comes flanked by fries or a salad.
