Need a Christmas Day Drink? These Bars Will Be Open

View as Map

Ahh, Christmas. That most revered (and commercialized) of all holidays is something many of us look forward to all year, but it can also be incredibly stressful, what with all the forced family togetherness — so if you find yourself in need of a stiff drink by the time all the presents are unwrapped on Wednesday, take comfort in the fact that you are not alone. Here are several bars that will be open on Christmas Day, whether you've got Yuletide sorrows that need drowning in whiskey or just want to get out of the house for a little bit. (We'll be adding more bars as we learn of them throughout the day.)

If you've got intel on a bar that's open on Christmas, let us know via the tipline or the comments below.

This downtown drinking stalwart that rarely closes will indeed be open on Christmas Day. A Dirty Dusty (that's a shot of Jack and a PBR) or two and all your Christmas woes will be forgotten.

Cook Hall

Got family in town staying at the W, or just need a #fancydrank? The hotel's trendy gastropub will be open from 1-10 p.m. to fulfill all your cocktailing needs.

Double Wide

Didn't get what you really wanted for Christmas? After a few Yoohoo Yeehaws, you'll forget all about it. Besides strong drinks, there will also be live music by George Quartz as well as a potluck dinner for holiday "orphans."

The Goat

Lakewood's down and dirty dive bar is totally open on Christmas Day -- and Wednesday means karaoke, so there's something to look forward to.

Lee Harvey's

The city's most beloved of dive bars will be open from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. for all your PBR-swilling needs. (The kitchen will be open from 6 to 10 p.m. dishing out half-price wings, too.)

The Libertine

The Libertine will be open from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Day serving up their usual: -- some of the most creative cocktails in town, plus an excellent beer lineup. Best of all, Wednesdays mean $3 Texas beers.

Meddlesome Moth

The Moth knows all that family time can be stressful, so they're opening at 5 p.m. to serve you from their amazing beer selection — plus the full food menu, because nothing says Christmas like fried chicken skins.

The Old Monk

The ever-popular Henderson Avenue drinking den opens at 8 p.m. on Christmas. Besides a pretty excellent beer selection, the Monk also serves an excellent Moscow Mule -- but please refrain from stealing the copper mugs, because that would be downright Grinch-like.

The Quarter Bar

Head to the Quarter Bar starting at 6 p.m on Christmas Day for a little taste of NOLA in Uptown. Major bonus: All food on the bar menu is 50 percent off.

Ships Lounge

One of the city's quintessential dive bars, Ships Lounge will absolutely be open on Christmas Day -- just don't forget to bring cash, and watch your language because naughty boys and girls throwing around F-bombs might be asked to leave.

Windmill Lounge

Have yourself a merry little Christmas with Charlie Pap and one of the best jukeboxes in town. The good ol' Windmill opens at 7 p.m. and we'll happily cheers to that.
