The Eater Dallas Heatmap: Where to Eat Right Now

View as Map

Pondering where you should eat today, tonight, this weekend? Eater is back to answer that very question with our newest addition of the Heatmap—a guide to what's new, what's hot, and where folks in the know are lining up to dine.

Additions to the last Heatmap of 2012 include a Design District gastropub that's benefiting from the recent addition of a new chef, John Tesar's new envelope-pushing seafood spot, and a Lower Greenville spot dishing up down-home comfort food.

IN: Spoon Bar & Kitchen, Meddlesome Moth, Bowl & Barrel, Jack's Southern Comfort Food, TJ's Seafood Market
OUT: Cook Hall, Ten Bells Tavern, Central 214, Tried & True, East Hampton Sandwich Co.

Got a suggestion for a restaurant you think deserves to be added to next month's Heatmap? Drop us a line or leave a comment and stay tuned for the next edition of the Heatmap, dropping the first Thursday of January.

Spoon Bar and Kitchen

John Tesar is everywhere. The "most hated chef in Dallas" is currently making waves, both on TV via Top Chef: Seattle feuds and in Preston Center at his newest and best restaurant to date, where he's pushing the seafood envelope with dishes like smoked eel head cheese and black truffle and oyster stew.

Meddlesome Moth

With the recent addition of chef David McMillan (Screen Door), the food at this Design District gastropub is better than ever. Dishes like pork belly with blue cheese grits and roasted figs and burrata with roasted pumpkin pair perfectly with one of the many (many!) craft beers on tap.

Bowl & Barrel

Yes, it's a bowling alley--but you could always just settle in and watch while you enjoy a cocktail by former People's Last Stand drink slinger Ian Reilly and order some devils on horseback, raw oysters, a fancy charcuterie board or even a Wagyu steak, all from a rather impressive menu by farm-to-table darling chef Sharon Hage.

Jack's Southern Comfort Food

Jack's offers a touch of Southern comfort like Grandma made but way better, in an adorably down-home spot on Lower Greenville with dishes like upside-down chicken pot pie, fried chicken and biscuit sandwiches.

TJ's Seafood Market

The newest Oak Lawn outpost of TJ's isn't just a seafood market, it's also a restaurant luring folks in with dollar oyster night on Sundays and a mean lobster roll, plus unique items like a charcuterie platter with smoked fish.
Matt McCallister leads an all-star crew at his new Design District spot, an ode to modern seasonal cuisine. A refreshingly casual atmosphere and friendly service are the perfect counterpart to deliciously dramatic plates of luscious pork jowls and impeccably seared lamb chops paired with creative flavors like licorice, fennel and peanut.

Hopdoddy Burger Bar

This Austin-based eco-friendly burger joint is drawing crowds from the Park Cities and beyond for juicy Black Angus burgers, Nutella-pretzel milkshakes and cocktails better than you'd expect from a burger place.

Stampede 66

Stephan Pyles' newest hyper-Texan spot is one of the hottest tables in town with dishes like fancy Frito pie and tacos with housemade tortillas, all served under a ceiling painted to resemble the Texas sky. The liquid nitrogen margaritas are highly entertaining.

Boulevardier

The new Bishop Arts French bistro from the chefs of Rockwall's Ava continues to draw crowds for housemade charcuterie and classic French dishes like bouillabaisse and a tasty Croque Monsieur.

Monica’s Nueva Cocina

Beloved restaurateur Monica Greene brings her Mexican comfort food to Oak Lawn's Ilume development, where the only thing hotter than the Mexican lasagna is the clientele. Brunch, lunch and dinner options include tacos and sushi (the restaurant went into the old Sushi Axiom space).
